The Bolivian Style (by Sandra)

I must pay honor to my colleague and friend cooperating Tarik who coined the phrase now part of our everyday vocabulary. These situations a bit absurd or illogical typical of Bolivia, which surprised the young gringos that we are now ranked in the register of the Bolivian Style. Examples ...

Style The Bolivian daily
- microphones, such Econoline, who wander on the freeway with their cargo of live sheep on the roof .... tied by the legs, placed in the middle of bicycles and various packages. What a show!

- People pitchent rocks through the windows of houses for advise them that they are on the sidewalk and they want you talking. (A bell that used to it, right?)

- Tons of bloqueos that occur without warning and disrupting transport, already not simple, Bolivia. Bus drivers who block the hand for 2 days to claim the right to drink while driving or (?!?) cholitas who sit in the middle of downtown streets to demand ... we do unclear what!

- 8 people in 4-seater car, the current. If there is no room, they go on the roof. Dozens of police on the streets: they will never say anything. By cons, they trapped me me, the little blanquita, asking me if I'm walking around with my red triangle for my safety and fire extinguisher in my car! Nothing to understand.

- When the national anthem first, everyone stops moving, singing and AFFIRMED gets his hand on the heart.

- The sockets are typically Bolivian Style. We often take for making it work, which, frankly, is very convenient. If one hangs over subtly, everything turns off. And that is when they do not melt or they do not explode!

- At the restaurant: beer and liquors are kept the fridge, but have used tablet (?!). How? They are in the fridge, but it is not plugged ... question of reducing energy costs. (Where would it be a manifestation of an amazing environmental awareness?)

- At the restaurant: do not leave your preconceived idea. Because half of the dishes listed on the menu are not available. If you order milk, maybe the waitress will pit one race to go and you look at the convenience store opposite.

- The concept of store opening hours do not exist here. They open and close to 9hres around dinner time ... until mid-afternoon (14h, 14h30, 15h, 15h30??) Is blurry, you say? Yes, but it is the same. Try returning to 15hres ... you'll see. If you're lucky, it will open, if you pass ...!

The Bolivian Style at Work

- The first Friday of each month people who work in offices feast. They drink beer and chatting to bless their offices for months. I think I will introduce it in Quebec ....

- A tunnel dug into the rock of the mountain is too small for the buses carrying Canadian volunteers password? What do we do? is removed from the roof rack and ... we go Flush! Passengers had the good idea to walk across before ... just in case!

- Tuesday I'm in the office, Dr. X said he spent about 14 hrs. Obviously, it does not come and he does not call. Wednesday morning, I call it. He will come around 16 pm. Obviously, it does not come and he does not call. When I called his cell is closed. He finally goes to the office on Thursday, without warning!

- A meeting scheduled for 9 am never begin before 11:30 ... Bolivian style requires. There will just Canadians who will be there on time and hanging around waiting patiently for the others ... that will eventually come by. We do not know when, but they will come.

-Not a good idea to try to fill up with petrol on Monday morning before going to the campo. Because often, on Monday morning, there is more fuel across the metropolitan Oruro! We are not talking of a city-hole there ... there are still over 200 000 people living here.

- Alcohol flows freely in campo ... difficult to hold a meeting when the party is already quite advanced (it gives the meeting, it is better) or if it does not care doc who has abused a little too ... that there is a chance to keep the internal hard!

- The medical director and I planned to go two days in rural communities of the municipality. The date came, I'm leaving at 6.30am to go to Santiago de Callapa at 2:30 chariot of Oruro. On arrival, the doctor is not there. Party at La Paz for 2 days. Great! I turnabout edge ...

See you dear readers. We will continue to collect for you the events of the Bolivian Style. Friend and thank you for the wonderful photos Tarik.
